About us

Newport Naturals was born in 1979 as a small market garden
specializing in organic vegetables and herbs; chickens and eggs; and
natural-colored hand-spinner-quality sheep fleece.
It now consists of approximately 1 and 3/4 acres of organically grown vegetables, herbs, and garlic.
A commercial Iris Garden of almost 2,400 cultivars
(standard dwarf bearded, miniature dwarf bearded, miniature tall bearded, tall bearded,
Japanese, Siberian, Species, and Spuria) has been developed.
Cultivars range from historic to space age.

In 1998, Newport Naturals added alpacas and in 1999, more sheep (Icelandic/Jacob, Merino, Cormo, and Karakul) to its collection. In 2000, we added 3 more sheep with the birth of twins to Fiona, a Icelandic/Jacob, and one lamb to Tessa, a Merino.

As a result of the back-breaking work of market gardening, Robert opened massage studios in both Spokane and Newport. Linda retired from  teaching alternative high school at Newport in 2004. In 1995, their son Patrick and his wife Paula and children Tara and Timothy moved to Laclede, Idaho, only 17 miles away. Tara and Tim have been major helps in the garden and with the animals.
